Loss of the Powhattan

I am writing an article about a packet ship, Powhattan that was lost off the New Jersey shore in 1854. All 300 souls were lost and because the manifest went down with the ship (and their ID’s were stolen) they were buried in two mass grave sites without any names. I am seeking to find their names from where they left, presumably Le Harve in February/March of 1854. Ultimately I would like to have the grave site rededicated with their names.

Editor’s Note: I’m not sure if I responded. However, everything I could locate regarding the Powhattan is here:
http://www.maritimeheritage.org/PassLists/Powhattan-April-1854.html.

The article has partial crew and passenger lists.

So far, a full list has not been located although one was supposed to have been printed on or about Saturday, June 20, 1854 in the New York Tribune.

The Wrecks at Absecon*

Total Loss of the Powhattan.
ALL ON BOARD PERISHED. TWO HUNDRED LIVES LOST.
The Humboldt Safe.

Further accounts were received in the City yesterday from the wrecks on the Absecom coast. Much doubt and confusion prevailed during the three previous days, in regard to the names and destination of the wrecked vessels.
