Are there any records of outbound ships from San Francisco, returning to the East Coast? My 4th great grandfather, Abner Lord Otis, sailed from Boston on the Henry Lee, arriving in San Francisco on Sept.13, 1849, Family tradition tells that he found gold. However, on his return voyage, he was robbed, and thrown overboard. I would like to find out if that, in fact, is true.

I find no trace of him after that time. His wife passed away in 1852, and their 2 young children were raised by his wife’s brother.
